Where to find character cards online — Chub, JanitorAI, Reddit

This is only what I’ve seen in the wild—site rules change; follow each site’s current terms. I’m not endorsing third parties, just reducing wrong turns.

Rough map below: Chub for browsing catalogs, JanitorAI for some export paths, Reddit for discussion—there is no single “official” download button for the whole hobby.

Chub.ai (often “Chub”)

Often used as a search + hosting hub: authors publish, you browse by tags. Good if you want to window-shop before downloading.
Heads-up: quality varies a lot—like any big catalog, a loud title isn’t always a match. Read the blurb and previews before you pull a file.

JanitorAI

Another common place where people publish and chat; some workflows export files you can use locally (formats depend on the site and tools). If Silly Tavern is your endgame, the question is simple: can you import the result into ST, and is it the PNG/JSON path you want?

Reddit (e.g. r/SillyTavernAI)

Great for discussion, warnings, and links to guides. Threads go stale fast—tool names in old posts may already be wrong. Treat it as a bulletin board, not canonical docs. Add a year or the word guide when you search.

After “download,” the real problems start

Getting bytes onto disk is step one. What usually hurts:

  1. Accidental overwrites with the same filename.
  2. Not knowing which copy you actually edited.
  3. Wanting to tweak one line but fearing the PNG.

Do this instead:

  1. Make a dedicated folder; subfolder by author or project.
  2. Rename on download—include a date or version.
  3. Duplicate before you edit.

A short compliance note

Sites differ on redistribution, republication, and commercial use. Downloading doesn’t automatically grant every right. When in doubt, read the terms—or ask the author.
